Before the 2024 T20 World Cup officially begins, Jos Buttler’s Team England, according to former England cricketer Nasser Hussain, is in a “good place.”
Group B includes Australia, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, and other competitors. On June 4, the reigning champions will take on Scotland in their first match.
Hussain said in an interview with Sky Sports that the Three Lions are playing better than they did during the 2023 ODI World Cup. He went on to say that should England falter in the 20-over World Cup, they would need a stronger backup plan.
“They just need to do better than they did at the 50-over World Cup. They entered it with a great deal of optimism, and when things didn’t go as planned, they didn’t respond well. Thus, they need a backup plan. How do we respond when things don’t go as planned or we don’t have a good start? To slower pitches, how do we respond? When we are confronted by stronger opponents, how do we respond? However, they’re in a great position with Buttler and their current roster. All they have to do is go for it,” Hussain said.
The former cricket player praised the Indian Premier League (IPL) for aiding in the preparation of England players for major matches. Hussain went on to say that the English cricket players who competed in the just-finished IPL 2024 will know how to perform in front of large audiences and under pressure.
They have participated in several important games and are a well-balanced team. We don’t speak about the IPL enough and how it not only prepares you for huge games but also clearly puts you up as a cricketer. And that’s what you need coming into a World Cup—under pressure and in front of large audiences. Thus, they have exhausted all options,” he said.
Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, and Mark Wood are the members of England’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
