Nathan Lyon has made a bold prediction ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He said Australia will face Pakistan in the final, ignoring the Indian team.
Lyon’s choice of Australia was expected, as he is from the same country. However, he expects Pakistan to play against the Mitchell Marsh-led team in the mega-final in Barbados on June 29.
Speaking to Prime Video, Lyon explained why the Men in Green were chosen as one of the finalists.
“Australia will be there as I am biased towards then. The next team would be Pakistan. In those conditions you need quality spinners and batters like Babar Azam.”
Australia faced Pakistan in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in 2021 and thumped them. They defeated New Zealand in the finale to lift their maiden title in this format of the game.
Nathan is also backing Marsh to be among the best performers in the tournament.
India last won the coveted title in the slam-bang version in 2007. Despite making it to the knockouts on several occasions, the powerhouse team has failed to lift the trophy. In the previous season, in 2022, they lost to England in the semis, with the English team going on to win their second World Cup.
