Brett Lee was renowned for his pace and toe-crushing yorkers during his playing days. The former Aussie speedster recently hailed Jasprit Bumrah, calling him a yorker specialist in the death overs. According to him, all the other bowlers find it hard to bowl Yorkers in the death overs. Bumrah is currently the best bowler in international cricket. The Indian spearhead bowls wicket-taking deliveries while containing runs.

‘Apart from Bumrah, I haven’t seen consistency from other seamers when it comes to Yorkers. I feel the bowlers are not bowling enough Yorkers in the last phase of a match,” Lee said at the launch of the Legends Intercontinental T20 league recently.

Brett Lee said that bowlers could have been economical in IPL 2024 had they tried to deliver Yorkers.

“In the 17 years of IPL, on average, a yorker goes for a strike rate of less than 100; this tells me that one run or less per bowler is executed. Some batters can guide Yorkers for boundaries by playing a scoop shot. This puts pressure on the bowler. However, a bowler can stop it by smart field placements,” he added.

Lee called for a better balance between the bat and the ball. “I am all for the batterers going hard, but there has to be something for the bowlers as well. I am not asking for a green wicket, as low scores are not suitable for T20 cricket. You want to see good totals in the shortest format.

“Anywhere around 185 mark to 230 is good, but the moment it touches 270, 277, it becomes hard,” he added.
