Sachin Tendulkar is expected to attend the India-Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match in New York on June 9 to show his support for the Men in Blue. While India’s opening match against Ireland is on June 5, it is the clash against Pakistan that has everyone talking.
The last two T20 World Cup meetings between the arch-rivals have resulted in a win each. Their group-stage encounter in the previous edition held in Melbourne was a thrilling affair. Fans are eagerly anticipating another epic showdown when Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah take on Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi in the coming days.
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s attendance is expected to bolster the Indian team’s morale. According to a source close to the ICC, the 51-year-old, represents a major sponsor of the global body and will be present at the packed Nassau County ground just outside New York City.
“Provided everything goes as planned, Sachin will be in New York watching the match and supporting the Indian team,” said the source.
“Although it is not confirmed whether he will meet the players before the game, his mere presence in the stands is sure to provide a morale boost for the Men in Blue in this crucial group stage match,” he continued.
Sachin Tendulkar, widely regarded as the greatest Indian cricketer of all time, continues to hold the records for the most runs scored in both Test and ODI cricket. Over the course of his illustrious career, he participated in six 50-over World Cup tournaments between 1992 and 2011.
The Indian cricket team has traveled to the USA in groups and had their first training session in New York. Their only warm-up match against Bangladesh is scheduled on Sunday. However, Virat Kohli has not yet reached the USA, as he reportedly requested a slightly longer break than the other players after IPL 2024.
