Delhi: The deadline for applying for the post of head coach of Team India ended on Monday. Everyone is interested in who will be appointed as the new coach in place of Rahul Dravid. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to give a chance to a person who has a deep understanding of domestic cricket.

Board secretary Jay Shah had also revealed this on one occasion and it is clear from this that the former Indian cricketer will be selected as the new coach. However, it is not yet known who has applied for the post of coach, but as soon as the application deadline ended on May 27, surprising things came to light.

More than three thousand applications have been received for the post of India's coach. It is worth noting that many of these applications are fake as well. National media reported that the (fake) applications included the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Dhoni and Virender Sehwag.

This is not the first time that BCCI has received applications in the name of celebrities. The same thing happened in 2022 as well. It took a long time for BCCI to find out how many of the more than 5000 applications were genuine. A similar situation is likely to arise this time too.

Is Gautam Gambhir's name the frontrunner for the Indian team's coach position?

Meanwhile, it seems that Gautam Gambhir is leading the race for the new coach's post. Gambhir's long discussion with Jay Shah after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final gave further credence to this news. India's new head coach will have to serve till the ICC ODI World Cup to be held in South Africa in 2027. His tenure will be three and a half years.

Under Gambhir's guidance, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) recently won their third IPL title, which has strengthened Gautam's claim for this post. It seems that BCCI has no strong option other than Gambhir.
