Yuzvendra Chahal made history once again as he became the highest wicket-taker for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chahal is also the only bowler to be the top wicket-taker for two different franchises. The wrist-spinner remains the highest wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL.
Chahal became RR’s top wicket-taker in the IPL 2024 Eliminator against his former side RCB. He claimed 1/43 from his four overs to make the record. Chahal is the IPL’s highest wicket-taker and he is also the most successful bowler among Indians in T20s in addition to owning the most scalps for India in Men’s T20Is. Chahal is a part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad. He will hope to make his presence felt.
Here we present bowlers with the most scalps for RR in the IPL.
Yuzvendra Chahal (66 wickets)
As per ESPNcricinfo, Chahal owns a total of 66 wickets for the Royals from 45 matches at an average of 22.28. His economy rate reads 8.41. Chahal has four four-fers and a fifer for the franchise. Notably, he joined RR at the mega auction in IPL 2022. This is his third season with the franchise. In his debut season for the side, Chahal finished with 27 wickets from 17 matches at 19.51. He won the prestigious Purple Cap. In IPL 2023, the spinner shone once again, taking 21 wickets from 14 matches at 20.57. In IPL 2024, he claimed 18 wickets for the Men in Pink. Once again, he is RR’s highest-wicket taker (3 successive campaigns). Earlier, Chahal bagged 139 scalps for RCB in 113 games at 22.03. He is the only RCB bowler with 100-plus scalps.
Siddharth Trivedi (65 wickets)
Former RR pacer Siddharth Trivedi bagged 65 scalps for the franchise across 76 matches. He played for the team from 2008 to 2013. Trivedi averaged 29.29 and his economy rate was 7.58. He took one four-wicket haul for RR. Notably, Trivedi only played for RR during his time in the IPL. He picked up 10-plus scalps in five of his six seasons. In RR’s title-winning season in 2008, Trivedi bagged 13 wickets at 30.69.
Shane Watson (61 wickets)
Former IPL legend Shane Watson was a massive figure for RR. He represented RR in 78 matches from 2008 to 2015. Watson also played for Chennai Super Kings and RCB in the IPL. He finished with 92 wickets from 145 IPL matches at 29.15. Notably, 61 of his wickets came for RR at 27.88. His economy rate was 7.49. His best spell was 3/10. Watson was sensational for RR in their defining 2008 season. He managed 17 wickets at 22.52.
A notable all-rounder, Watson mustered 2372 runs with the bat for RR at 36.49. He smashed two tons and 14 fifties. Overall, the Aussie hammered 3874 runs (100s: 4, 50s: 21). He hit 190 sixes.
Shane Warne (57 wickets)
The late Shane Warne captained RR to the IPL title in 2008. Leg-spinner Warne represented the Royals across four IPL seasons, claiming 57 scalps from 55 matches at 25.38. He took one four-wicket haul. The 2008 campaign saw the multiple World Cup-winning ace pick up 19 wickets from 15 games at 21.26. He was the side’s second-highest wicket-taker after Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir (22 wickets). Notably, Tanvir won the Purple Cap that season. Warne took 14 wickets in 2009, 11 wickets in 2010 and 13 wickets in 2011 to highlight his consistency.
James Faulkner (47 wickets)
James Faulkner did an able job for RR in the IPL. The Australian left-arm quick represented the side across three seasons (2013-2015) and he claimed 47 wickets in this phase. He played 42 matches and averaged 27.06. He claimed two five-wicket hauls for RR. Faulkner was a revelation in 2013. He managed 28 wickets from 16 matches at 15.25. Both of his fifers came in the 2013 campaign. However, Dwayne Bravo bettered Faulkner’s tally to claim the Purple Cap (32 wickets). In IPL 2014, Faulkner managed 11 wickets at 38.09. Faulkner finished with 8 wickets in IPL 2015 at 53.25.
Jofra Archer (46 wickets)
England fast bowler Jofra Archer played in three seasons for RR between 2018 to 2020. Since then, injuries took a toll as he failed to play any more. In 35 matches across these three seasons, Archer was solid, taking 46 scalps at an average of 21.32. His economy rate was 7.13. Archer claimed 15 wickets for RR in 2018 at 21.66, having played only 10 games. In 2019, the World Cup-winning pacer took 11 scalps from 11 games at 26.45. The following season saw Archer play all of RR’s 14 matches. He bagged 20 wickets at 18.25.
Trent Boult (42 wickets)
Former Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Trent Boult joined RR in 2022 after the side went heavy for him at the auction. Boult has done a reasonable job for RR, picking 42 scalps from 41 matches at 28.61. The left-arm pacer from New Zealand did a reasonable job in IPL 2022, taking 16 wickets from 16 matches at 30.75. In 2023, Boult took 13 scalps from 10 matches at 24. In IPL 2024, he owns 13 scalps from 15 matches at 30.61. Overall, Boult has 118 scalps in the IPL from 103 matches at an average of 26-plus. He owns one four-wicket haul.
