Delhi: The deadline for application for the post of head coach of the Indian men's cricket team ended on Monday. It is not yet known who has actually applied for this post. The tenure of current coach Rahul Dravid ends after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The upcoming major tournament will be played in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) from June 1 to June 29.

Former Indian veteran opener Gautam Gambhir is being considered the strongest contender for this post, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not said anything about this, while no official information related to this has come from Gambhir's side either.

Under Gambhir's guidance, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) recently won their third IPL title, which has strengthened Gautam's claim for this post. It seems that BCCI has no strong option other than Gambhir. It is believed that no big foreign name has shown interest in becoming the coach.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently said that he is looking for a candidate who understands Indian cricket well. BCCI had its eyes on VVS Laxman, but his interest in the post seems to be low. Laxman is currently working as the president of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Will Gambhir become the next Indian head coach?

Now if Gambhir becomes the coach of Team India, then KKR owner Shahrukh Khan has a good relationship with him. This clearly means that it will not be easy for him to leave the IPL team. Another reason is that the opinion of the senior Indian players currently present in New York on the possibility of Gambhir becoming the coach cannot be ignored. Now in such a situation it will be very interesting to see who becomes the coach of Team India.
