Pietersen has selected two players from the champion team Kolkata Knight Riders (Sunil Narayan and Andre Russell) and two players from the runner-up team Sunrisers Hyderabad (Heinrich Klaasen and Thangarasu Natarajan) in his team. Apart from this, Pietersen has selected the maximum number of players from the Royal Challengers Bangalore team.

He has included RCB star batsman Virat Kohli as an opener and Rajat Patidar at number three position. Apart from this, RCB all-rounder Cameron Green is also a part of Pietersen's Team of the Tournament.
