The veteran didn’t say anything about his future plans after the five-time champions were eliminated from the league. According to reports, he has sought some time from the franchise before revealing his future course of action. He is 42 and will turn one year older in the next season of the tournament.
Dhoni only played a few balls in the 17th season, and despite the need and demand, he didn’t promote himself to the batting order. He was slammed for not coming up with the order, but the veteran didn’t listen to anyone. It was reported that Dhoni was battling with a muscle tear in his knee, which didn’t allow him to bat freely.
Former India player Sunil Gavaskar admires the former CSK skipper. He hailed the most successful captain in the cash-rich league’s history. However, he also reacted to the reports of MSD’s retirement.
‘I feel he will make a big announcement on July 7. He should never announce retirement from the Indian Premier League. Instead, he should stop playing in it. Whenever Dhoni feels fine, he can return to the league. Even BCCI will not be able to stop him as he will not retire from the tournament,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
Dhoni had handed the CSK’s captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the start of the season, but the move didn’t give the expected results. CSK won the title in 2023, but they couldn’t defend it after failing to qualify for the playoffs.
