Delhi: In the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 8 wickets and became the champion. In this way, Kolkata became the third team to win the third IPL trophy after 2012 and 2014. Shreyas Iyer is the hero of this victory, because he truly came on the field and led all the players well as a captain. He led Delhi Capitals to the final of IPL in 2020 and now also won the first trophy for Kolkata. Seeing this skill of Iyer, former Indian wicketkeeper Robin Uthappa has said that Shreyas Iyer will be the next captain of India.

38-year-old Uthappa said on Jio Cinema, “I will say this. He is the future captain of India. He is in line for captaincy before Shubman Gill. He has the ability to handle the team. I think he must have learned a lot this season. It should be understood that he has worked with 3 strong people Gautam Gambhir, Chandrakant Pandit, Abhishek Nair.”
He further said, “It would have been difficult to perform at your best and make the right decisions throughout the IPL season, but he did it effortlessly. This tells a lot about his character, ability and confidence. Because of this, he has put himself right in the conversation for the next Indian captain.”
Robin said, “He faced many failures, especially due to injuries, being out of the World Cup, not getting a place in the BCCI Central Salary Agreement. Yet he spoke less about it. This shows that he is clear about what he is going to do for himself and the team. I think this is the beginning of Shreyas Iyer's development as a captain.”
KKR defeated SRH in the final
On the other hand, if we talk about the final, KKR lost the toss and bowled first and bowled out SRH for 113 runs. This was the lowest score in the history of IPL in the final.
