The Kolkata Knight Riders completed their dominance in IPL 2024 by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Their bowlers put on a clinical display, restricting SRH to a meager 113 runs – the lowest score in the IPL final. Venkatesh Iyer powered the Knight Riders’ chase with an aggressive half-century, guiding his team to a victory in just 10.3 overs.

After KKR’s victory, former batter Ambati Rayudu lauded the Shreyas Iyer-led team and took a subtle dig at Virat Kohli and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Rayudu emphasized the importance of collective contributions, noting that individual accolades like the Orange Cap do not necessarily guarantee the IPL title.

In the IPL 2024 season, four KKR batters excelled, each scoring over 350 runs. Opener Sunil Narine topped the group with a remarkable 488 runs in 15 matches. Phil Salt contributed 435 runs, Venkatesh amassed 370, and captain Shreyas added 354 for the Kolkata side. However, the performance of RCB players were not consistent.

“The KKR team deserves congratulations for supporting key players like Narine, Russell, and Starc, and for their collective contributions to the team’s IPL victory. Winning the IPL is not about individual accolades like the Orange Cap, but rather the cumulative efforts of many players. This team-first approach is what leads to success in the IPL,” said Rayudu.

Kohli claimed the coveted Orange Cap by amassing 741 runs in 15 innings at an average of 61.75. He was a dominant force, smashing one century and five fifties at a blistering strike rate of over 154. This marked the second time Kohli had won the award for being the IPL’s leading run-scorer, having previously set a tournament record by racking up 973 runs in 2016.
