Delhi: Australia's star fast bowler and Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) key player in the title win, Mitchell Starc has hinted at retiring from ODIs. Speaking at a press conference after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 title, Starc said that he would like to come back to play in the tournament next year. The fast bowler said that he had prioritized Australia for the last 9 years of his life, but that is going to change a bit as he is nearing the end of his career.

Starc, who was bought for the highest amount in the history of the Indian Premier League in the 2024 auction, returned to play in the IPL for the first time since 2015. At that time, Starc's price of Rs 24.75 crore surprised people. Starc revealed his plans in the near future and said that he enjoyed being a part of the IPL this season. Starc confirmed his availability for next year and hoped that he would get a chance to play for KKR in 2025.

34-year-old Mitchell Starc said, “For the last 9 years I have given priority to Australian cricket and IPL has been a time of vacation for me, allowing me to rest my body and also spend some time with my wife. This has been my approach for the last 9 years. Going forward, of course I am nearing the end of my career, so I may be out of one format. It is far away, the next ODI World Cup and whether that format continues for me or not, it may open the doors to more franchise cricket, so I have thoroughly enjoyed this season. It is a wonderful tournament with wonderful players and the success has been fantastic.”

He further said, “I don't know exactly about next year's schedule, but as I said, I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to coming here next time and hopefully playing for KKR next year as well.”
