India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik will draw a curtain on his IPL career after the end of the upcoming 2024 season. The veteran player is one of the few players to have featured in all the seasons of IPL since its inception.
"This 2024 edition will be his (Dinesh Karthik's) last IPL. He will decide his international retirement after the IPL," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Karthik will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024 after representing five other franchises in the cash-rich league.
The 38-year-old has been one of the most experienced wicketkeeper-batter in the IPL history. He started his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008 before joining Kings XI Punjab in 2011. He then moved to Mumbai Indians for the next two IPL seasons before returning to Delhi in 2014 for an attractive sum of Rs 12.5 crore.
In 2015, RCB signed him for Rs 10.5 crore before playing for Gujarat Lions in the 2016 and 2017 editions of the tournament. He spent the most time in Kolkata Knight Riders where he played four seasons and led the side to playoffs in 2018 and finished fifth in 2019.
Karthik was released by KKR before the start of the IPL 2022, and RCB acquired him for the second time for Rs 5.5 crore. He was primarily a finisher for RCB, although he had an incredible season.
Karthik was a major factor in the RCB's progress to the playoffs that season, scoring 330 runs at an average of 55 and a scorching strike rate of 183.33 in 16 games.
