Kolkata Knight Riders are the champions of the Indian Premier League 2024. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai to click their title IPL title, first in 10 years. KKR were the best franchise in the group stage and they displayed their masterclass in Qualifier 1 and final against SRH.

After dismissing the rivals for 113 runs, the completed the chase in 10.3 overs. Venkatesh Iyer hit an unbeaten 50 to guide the team to another success. After a tough start to the season, the southpaw retuned and scored consistently for Kolkata.

He struck a fifty in Qualifier 1 against Hyderabad as the Knight Riders won the contest by 8 wickets to make it to the final. In the two contests against Mumbai Indians in the last phase of the league stage, Iyer amassed 70 and 42.

Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu hailed the 29-year old left-handed batter for his consistent show with the bat.

“Venkatesh Iyer has been Mr Consistent of IPL 2024. He played brilliant knocks for Kolkata Knight Riders when it mattered the most. He was failing when the league started but kept his best for the second phase of the tournament.

“He was amazing against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 and repeated his performance against the same team in the final. That’s call consistency. Iyer played his part in the success of Kolkata Knight Riders,” he said on Star Sports.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc, who took two wickets, was named the Player of the Match in the finale. He had picked up the award in Qualifier 1 as well.
