Delhi: Former great Australian captain Ricky Ponting has expressed deep concern about the future of ODI cricket. Ponting fears that the ODI format is gradually losing its place among the ever-expanding T20 franchise leagues around the world. Ponting, one of the most successful batsmen in ODI cricket, has scored 13,704 runs in this format.
Ponting believes that due to the increasing influence of T20 leagues, there will be less space in the calendar for ODI cricket in the future.
However, he is not happy with this change, but he believes that this is becoming a bitter reality in modern cricket.Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of the World Championship of Legends event, Ponting said,
Despite expressing concerns about the ODI format, Ricky Ponting has full confidence in the future of Test cricket. He believes that as long as the major cricket boards of the world continue to give priority to red ball cricket, Test cricket will remain strong.
According to the Australian legend, countries like India, Australia, England and South Africa will play an important role in keeping Test cricket strong.
