Delhi: A very relieving and big news has come out for crores of fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Aryaman Birla, chairman of the new ownership group of the franchise, has made it completely clear that the iconic name of RCB will not be changed.
Actually, after Aditya Birla Group acquired the ownership rights of the IPL franchise, there were various apprehensions in the minds of the fans regarding the change of name, but the new owners have put a complete stop to all those rumours.
While talking to Rev Sports, Aryaman Birla clarified the situation regarding the name and identity of RCB. He said, “Royal Challengers Bangalore—this name will not change. It is a very big brand and we like the name very much.”
This news is also special for the fans because RCB's fan following is amazing all over the world. Fans have seen their team become champions after years of long wait and disappointment. In such a situation, the decision to retain the name will maintain the years-old identity of the franchise and the emotional connection of the fans.
Aditya Birla Group has purchased the entire equity of RCB from United Spirits Limited for US $ 1.78 billion (approximately Rs 16,706 crore).
This mega deal also includes Blackstone's permanent private equity strategy BXPE (whose CEO is Viral Patel), American investor David Blitzer's Bolt Ventures and Times of India Media Group. This takeover is for both the men's IPL team and the women's team playing in the Women's Premier League.
This ownership change has come at a time when RCB is going through the golden phase of its cricket history. Bengaluru team won the IPL trophy for the second consecutive time by defeating Gujarat Titans in the final match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Under the leadership of captain Rajat Patidar, the team has created a new history on the field by performing brilliantly in the last two seasons. Now even after the arrival of new owners, the identity and name of the team will remain the same as the fans always wanted.
