Lisa Keightley’s role as the Mumbai Indians head coach in the Women’s Premier League was put in doubt after the two-time World Cup winner took up a new role with Cricket Australia (CA).

Keightley, who has coached the Australian women’s national team in the past, was appointed as CA’s National Development Lead.

The role will be focussed at “identifying, developing and supporting the next generation of Australian women’s cricket talent”, as per CA. She will start her new role from September 10 onwards.

This appointment could mean the end of her stint as the MI coach in the WPL. She joined the two-time champion ahead of the 2025 season, replacing Charlotte Edwards who had joined England women at the helm.

“I’m really excited to take on this role and contribute to the future of Australian cricket,” Keightley said in a CA release.

“I’ve been fortunate to work with players and coaches at all levels of the game, and one thing I’ve learned is how important strong pathways and guidance are in helping talent grow and thrive.

“My focus will be on supporting players, coaches and staff across the country, helping create positive environments and making sure people have the opportunities and support they need to be their best,” she added.

Keightley represented Australia between 1995 and 2005, featuring in nine Tests, 82 ODIs and one T20I.
