Indian opener Smriti Mandhana broke the record for the most centuries in women’s international cricket after notching up her 18th ton, against Hong Kong in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup on Thursday.

Mandhana overtook Australia’s Meg Lanning and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who had 17 centuries each in international cricket.

The Indian batter also became the highest run-getter in women’s international cricket, overtaking compatriot Mithali Raj (10,868 runs).

Mandhana also became the first Indian to score multiple hundreds in Women’s T20Is. Her first ton in the format came in 2025, against England.

The 30-year-old reached the landmark with a four against Marina Lamplough in the 17th over. She was eventually run out for 124 (64b), marking the highest score by an Indian in the format.

Mandhana is the second batter to score a hundred in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, after Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, who achieved the feat against Malaysia in 2024.
