India were left frustrated as their attempts to win the second Test match in Colombo failed miserably. Sonal Dinusha’s second century of the game, coupled with some staunch resistance from the Lankan lower-order, meant that the final day went in favour of the hosts.

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif wasn’t happy with the outcome.

The 45-year-old questioned the team over their performance in the second Test after a resounding win in the opening contest. His main concern was India’s inability to get rid of Dinusha in the second Test.

“Every batter has a weakness somewhere, and it is about spotting that. I am not just speaking about the India skipper but also about the entire bowling unit and even the coaches. They should have sat down together and analysed how to dismiss him after his ton in Galle.”

The 25-year-old Sri Lanka batter was named the Player of the Match for his knocks of 103 and 133* in Colombo. The southpaw also scored 100 and 84 runs in the Galle Test to take his series tally to 420 runs from the two games at an average of 140. Despite this, the youngster wasn’t given the Player of the Series award, which went to Devdutt Padikkal for his 328 runs.

The batter didn’t give India many chances during the course of the series and played the spinners with ease.

His sweep shots, both conventional and reverse, kept the opposition at bay.

“Tactically, they attacked the batter less. The field was also opened up. Saransh Jain got his wicket after the batter scored a ton in the first innings. Mohammed Siraj bowled a fullish delivery which the batter let go because he doesn’t like to play the drive,” Kaif added.

Young batter overjoyed after performance vs India

The batting sensation from Sri Lanka was over the moon after his amazing outing with the bat in the two-match Test series against the visiting Indian side.

“I am happy with the performance. I wanted to score the runs when the team was down, so that’s what I did.”

Coach Gary Kirsten also lauded the southpaw, saying it wasn’t easy batting at number six because the team is often under pressure. He added that Dinusha tends to thrive in such situations and the coach loved the approach shown by the young player in Test cricket.
