Sanjay Manjrekar slammed the Sri Lanka players for their behaviour on Day 2 of the second Test against India in Colombo. Prabath Jayasuriya and Kamil Mishara were not happy with the on-field umpires after the game continued despite the fading light. Manav Suthar dismissed Jayasuriya.

The batter threw his gloves inside the dressing room, and the hosts finished the day on 8 for 2. The cameras showed the home players reacting angrily, with Manjrekar questioning the hosts for losing the plot.

However, the former India player heaped massive praise on Suthar for getting rid of Jayasuriya just before the stumps.

“It was unprofessional. I know you will blame umpires for bad light, but you lose concentration. They got too busy in their argument with the officials and lost focus. The light was not that bad, and the ball was clearly visible. If there is darkness and bad light, the batters are given an option of playing or leaving,” Manjrekar said.

“Sri Lanka players were trying to prove themselves correct but ended up making a mistake. You can’t blame a night watcher for his dismissal. Suthar was spot on and bowled superbly. He finished well,” he added.

There was rain in the final session, and the umpires told the players to leave the field, with the covers covering the ground. However, the Indian players wanted to continue, and the rain stopped. The visitors came out all guns blazing. Prasidh Krishna and Suthar took two wickets after India posted 503 for 9.

“Credit to India for taking two wickets. Sri Lanka failed to get going, with India playing a good part when the covers were brought in. They didn’t leave the field and were seen putting pressure on the umpire as they wanted to play. India are heavyweights in world cricket. Indian team were confident of the resumption of the match as they felt the light was good. It put pressure on the umpires,” he mentioned.

Earlier, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel scored hundreds to help India cross the 500-run mark. Asitha Fernando took 4 wickets for Sri Lanka.
