Australia were under pressure on day three of the Darwin Test match against Bangladesh. The visiting side were bowled out for 426 to take a massive lead of 228 runs. Travis Head was dismissed for 17 runs.

Head chopped the ball back onto his stumps in the 11th over of the innings. The 32-year-old then left everyone, including legend Adam Gilchrist, perplexed by turning around and putting the bails back before leaving the field.

Gilchrist was heard saying, “Chopped on! Hasan Mahmud gets the job done again. It’s the angled bat of Travis Head. This is extraordinary. I’ve never seen that in all my cricketing career. A batsman so disappointed, but turns around and sets the stumps back up.”

Mahmud, who picked up 6/55 in the first innings, started the second innings by getting rid of Jake Weatherald for a duck. The Aussie batter also chopped the ball onto his stumps and was out on the third ball of the second over.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith added 36 runs for the third wicket off 58 balls. Taijul Islam then got the wicket of Marnus for 31 runs. Smith, who scored 71 in the first innings, got together with Cameron Green to add 49 runs for the 4th wicket in 104 balls.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz took an easy return catch to get rid of the dangerous batter for 44 runs. Smith’s knock came off 88 balls with five hits to the fence. Aussies were placed at 161/4 at the end of day’s play, still behind by 67 runs, with Green batting on 43 and Carey on 19 runs.

Josh Hazlewood joins special club with six-wicket haul against Bangladesh

The 35-year-old pace bowler Josh Hazlewood took 6/89 from his 28 overs on Saturday. The pacer completed 300 Test wickets when he dismissed Mehidy for 65 runs and then got his sixth scalp in the form of Ebadot Hossain, who was caught behind for seven runs.

Mitchell Starc took two wickets while skipper Pat Cummins and veteran spinner Nathan Lyon claimed a wicket each. Hazlewood is now ninth on the list with 301 wickets so far and needs 10 more to go past Brett Lee, who has 310 wickets from 76 matches.
