Gautam Gambhir: Team India is gearing up for the T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament will start from June 2, while the final will be played on June 29. With this mega event, the tenure of Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid will end. In such a situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has intensified the search for a new head coach.
The board has invited applications from interested contenders. But it is believed that BCCI has shortlisted some veterans including Gautam Gambhir for the new head coach, but the talks have not been officially held yet. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir has placed a surprising condition before the board.
Gautam Gambhir placed a condition
Dainik Jagran has claimed in its report that former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is ready to become the head coach of Team India. But he will send the application to BCCI only when the board also shows interest in making him the head coach. It is worth noting that the deadline for submitting the application is May 28.
However, this condition of Gautam Gambhir is a bit surprising, because ESPN Cricinfo had told a few days ago that BCCI is also interested in making Gautam Gambhir the next head coach of Team India and preliminary discussions have also taken place with Gautam in this regard.
No Australian was offered the offer
Earlier, some reports also claimed that the BCCI has offered the post of new head coach of Team India to Australian legends like Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer. But they turned down the offer. However, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah gave a clarification in this entire matter and said that the board has not had any talks with any Australian on this subject.
Gautam Gambhir does not have coaching experience
42-year-old Gautam Gambhir is the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 and under his guidance, the franchise has made it to the finals with pride. Earlier, Gautam was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and IPL 2023. He also got Lucknow a place in the playoffs in both the seasons. But despite this, Gautam Gambhir has no experience of coaching in any position in international cricket. In such a situation, it would have been seen what wonders he does if he is made the head coach of Team India.
