Former India spinner Murali Kartik believes Shubman Gill's captaincy will face intense scrutiny during the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, starting August 15 in Galle. Gill took over from Rohit Sharma as Test captain in May last year and has led India in nine matches so far, with four wins, four losses, and one draw. India currently sit fifth in the World Test Championship standings.

Speaking to ANI, Kartik expressed full confidence in Gill's batting ability but emphasized that his fitness will be critical. "For that, Shubman Gill will always be questioned," Kartik said, referring to the captain's workload and physical condition. Gill recently recovered from a finger injury sustained during practice, though he looked in good touch during the warm-up match, scoring 44.

Kartik backed the young skipper to deliver with the bat, but stressed that captaincy in overseas conditions, especially in spin-friendly Sri Lanka, will test his tactical acumen and decision-making under pressure.
