Just before the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, starting August 15th, the Indian team management has made a major decision. Following the victory in the practice match, young batsman Sai Sudarshan has been ruled out of the entire Test series due to a stress reaction in his right toe. The selection committee has included right-handed batsman Sarfaraz Khan in the 15-member squad in his place.
BCCI issues release: Sudarshan undergoing treatment in Bengaluru
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed this change in an official release on the social media platform ‘X’.
Sudarshan is currently undergoing rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. The board’s medical team is continuously monitoring his health and recovery.As per the selection committee’s decision, Sarfaraz Khan will join the Indian team in Colombo. The team is currently practicing in Colombo before departing for the first Test match, starting August 15th at the Galle International Stadium.

Sarfaraz Khan made his Test debut against England in February 2024. He played his last Test match in November 2024 against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He had been out of the national team since then. Now, after a gap of almost two years, he has returned to the red-ball format.
