India's T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has heaped praise on the nation's athletes for their spectacular performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. In a special post on X, Iyer reserved particular appreciation for the boxers, who delivered India's best-ever campaign in the sport at the Games.

"Our boxers dominated Glasgow, bringing home a haul of gold and making the nation proud. This is Indian sport at its finest," Iyer wrote. India topped the boxing medals table with an unprecedented seven gold and three silver medals. Reigning world champion Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Asian Games medallist Preeti Pawar (54kg), Asian champion Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) all struck gold. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) settled for silver, while Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal won the men's titles.

Overall, India finished with 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze, totaling 39 medals, surpassing their previous best boxing tally from Gold Coast 2018.

Iyer, recently appointed T20 captain, has had a mixed start with series losses to Ireland and England, but a bounce-back win against Zimbabwe. However, his focus remained firmly on celebrating India's sporting heroes.
