In a surprising twist, India's wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been spotted serving the government of India but not in his cricketing whites.

While most cricketers immerse themselves fully in their glamorous profession, Kishan has taken a different path. After India's England tour concluded in July, the Men in Blue moved on to the Sri Lanka series under Shubman Gill, but Kishan wasn't included in the squad. Instead of resting, he quietly reported to his other prestigious role.

Ishan Kishan is currently working as an Assistant Manager at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Patna.

This revelation has shocked many fans. While players like Mohammed Siraj hold honorary posts such as DSP of Telangana Police, they rarely perform active duties. Kishan, however, was photographed in his office uniform, standing alongside colleagues, proving he takes this responsibility seriously.

How did Kishan land this government job?

He secured the position through the sports quota, which requires candidates to have represented India in international cricket or major domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy; criteria Kishan comfortably meets. At 28, he also fits the age limit. After notifications were released, he applied, cleared physical examinations, and completed document verification to bag the role.

His monthly gross salary is approximately ₹1.25 lakh, with an annual CTC of nearly ₹24 lakh.

Is Kishan stepping away from cricket?

Not at all. Like KL Rahul, who also holds an RBI Assistant Manager post, and MS Dhoni, who served in the Indian Army while playing, Kishan remains fully committed to cricket. He recently became the world's No. 1 T20I batter and is at the peak of his career. This government job is likely a backup plan; he will resume RBI duties only during breaks between international assignments.
