The 35-year-old Ben Stokes may have retired from the international format, but massive questions are being asked about his future. The former England Test captain called time on his career after the third and final Test match against New Zealand at home. He is currently playing for Durham in the ODI format. 

The former Chennai Super Kings star has stated that he wished to coach the England cricket team. In his appearance on the Love of Cricket Podcast, the former all-rounder said: “Doing my level three coaching now while still playing the game, because I want to get into coaching when the day comes and I am not playing.”

The former ODI World Cup winner also said, “I know what I want to do in terms of staying within the game, which is to be a coach. And I would absolutely want to coach the England cricket team. I really would love to be part of the leadership group.”

Having retired from the game, the former England skipper also congratulated Joe Root on being named as the Test captain once more. “Wish Root nothing but success. I hope he goes on and achieves amazing things as captain and I think he’s going to really enjoy it with Fleming, who is a great man.”

Former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming had worked with the English cricketer during their time at CSK. “I have worked with him (Fleming) before and told Joe that I am only concerned about him and that’s what I am worried about. Root always puts the team first and puts himself second. What Root went through the last time he led the side, I don’t want to see that happen again. Because I care for him a lot and I’msure he is going to do great. I’m also looking forward to seeing what the team does going forward.”

Big Bash League teams in fray for retired star

Despite retiring from the sport, there is massive demand for the all-rounder in the Big Bash League. Durham star, as per reports, is likely to be part of the Sydney Sixers side for the coming season. The player was last part of the league in 2014, when he played four games for Melbourne Renegades, scoring 128 runs and also taking three wickets. 

Hobart Hurricanes are also keen on enlisting the player for the coming season. Tasmania cricket chief Dom Baker said that if a chance came to sign a player like Stokes, then the Hurricanes would not let the chance go begging and would want to sign the player to fill their stadium.
