Delhi: Former Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has bid farewell to former Team India fielding coach T. Dilip in a special way. Recently, the BCCI appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach, replacing T.

Dilip. Following this, Rohit shared an emotional post on social media, praising Dilip’s work.

Rohit Sharma wrote on his Instagram story, “You are a legend, Dilip garu. You created an amazing atmosphere within the team and always worked hard behind the scenes. Best wishes for your future.”

T Dilip was an important part of Team India for five years

Dilip first joined the Indian team’s support staff in 2021. He served as fielding coach, first under Rahul Dravid and later under Gautam Gambhir. His initial tenure lasted until the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

After this, he was again included in the team on a one-year contract for the England tour in 2025, but after the contract ended, BCCI did not retain him further.

Major successes during T Dileep’s tenure

During T. Dilip’s tenure, the Indian team achieved several major achievements. India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026, and also won the Champions Trophy in 2025.

However, his most notable work wasn’t limited to coaching.

He also experimented with several innovations to improve the team’s fielding, which were highly praised by the players.

The ‘Best Fielder’ medal has become a special tradition in the dressing room.

T. Dilip’s most popular initiative was the “Best Fielder of the Match” medal.

It was introduced during the 2023 ODI World Cup. After each match, the player who performed the best fielding performance was presented with this medal in a special ceremony. This dressing room ceremony also became very popular with fans. Players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja have won this honor. The purpose of this initiative was to motivate players to perform even better in their fielding.

T Dilip gets emotional after being separated from Team India 

Following his departure from Team India, T. Dilip also shared an emotional post on Instagram. He wrote that the past five years have been some of the most memorable moments of his life.

He said that when he joined the team, his only goal was to give his best every day. He also admitted that the “Best Fielder” medal will always be close to his heart, as seeing the joy on the players’ faces after winning it was a very special experience.
