India’s likely tour of Bangladesh is most likely to go ahead, with the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan set to be postponed. The series was scheduled to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi in September, with Afghans acting as the home team. The Men in Blue have a packed international schedule starting in a few weeks.

If the tour of Bangladesh happens, it will require the government’s approval. A total of three ODIs and T20I matches will be played in September. The Asian Games 2026 are also there, for which a full-strength Indian side has been announced.

The two boards were at loggerheads after Kolkata Knight Riders released Mustafizur Rahman before the start of the Indian Premier League 2026. The Bangladeshi board then urged the International Cricket Council to shift their T20 World Cup games from India to Sri Lanka. In the end, Bangladesh were replaced by Scotland in the showpiece event.

Bangladesh ready to host all games at one venue

The Times of India reported that there are ‘signs’ of relations improving between the two boards. One source told the newspaper that the Bangladesh board is ready to host all the matches at one venue. The source added that the home country will prefer to host T20Is and ODIs at separate venues, with Dhaka and Chattogram leading the race.

The two boards have apparently met on the sidelines of the ICC meeting in London recently. There is also a possibility that only one format could be played during the course of the tour. India’s tour of Bangladesh was initially supposed to take place in 2025, but rising political differences ended all the possibilities. The Men in Blue last visited in late 2022 under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
