Rajasthan Royals were let down by their in-form players against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League 2024. Chasing 176 runs in 20 overs, RR were restricted to 139/7, falling short by 36 runs.
Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag accumulated more than 500 runs each in the 17th season, but the two failed when it mattered the most. Former India player Sunil Gavaskar accused them of playing fancy shots and leaving the team in trouble.
“What is the use of scoring 500 runs? They got out playing fancy shots. If you can’t win a game for your franchise, it doesn’t count. Samson played a reckless stroke.
“This is the problem with him and that’s why he hasn’t been able to cement his place in the Indian team. He doesn’t have a proper shot selection. I hope he rectifies it and performs well for the Indian team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
RR captain Samson amassed 10 runs off 11 balls before Abhishek Sharma dismissed him.
On the other hand, Parag managed 6 runs off 10 deliveries before heading back to the dressing room.
Shahbaz Ahmed got better of the young Indian batter.
