'This could be a very important series for him' - Aakash Chopra on Ravi Bishnoi ahead of ZIM vs IND 2026 T20Is
Aakash Chopra believes the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe offers Ravi Bishnoi the perfect platform to silence his critics and, more importantly, rebuild his confidence.
The leg-spinner's last outing for India was one to forget. In the second T20I against England, Bishnoi leaked 60 runs from his four overs, bowled multiple no-balls, and had one over where he conceded a staggering 29 runs. India, defending 191, ended up on the losing side, and Bishnoi bore the brunt of the backlash.
But Chopra sees this Zimbabwe series as a fresh start.
"The obsession we've had with spin-bowling all-rounders won't be there because Washington Sundar and Axar Patel aren't in the squad," he said on his YouTube channel. "So you have to play one of Ravi Bishnoi or Harsh Dubey, maybe both. They are proper bowlers who can take wickets."
Chopra added that this could be a "slight redemption" for Bishnoi, calling the series "very important" for him. He also noted that Harsh Dubey is being groomed as a future backup for Axar, especially given Sundar's recurring injury issues.
Beyond spin, Chopra highlighted India's bold new approach to pace.
"We are unleashing pace with Ashok Sharma and Mayank Yadav, both capable of touching 150 kph," he said. With Yash Thakur also in the mix, the former opener is keen to see how India balance raw speed with control on Zimbabwean surfaces that offer some movement. Either way, this series isn't just about results; it's about unearthing the next generation.
