The Australian pace trio Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc have returned to Australia squad for the upcoming two-match test series against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, spinner Nathan Lyon will also be returning to the squad after missing the Ashes due to a hamstring injury.

Australia will be playing their first since the retirement of Usman Khawaja and will be looking for a replacement inside the top six, with Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Jake Weatherald included as batting options.

However, players like Michael Neser, Todd Murphy, Brendan Doggett have been dropped from the Australia squad from their recent series against England.

Speaking on the squad selection, Australia selection chair George Bailey said, “The NSP (National Selection Panel) look forward to the return of Pat, Josh and Nathan. They have worked extremely hard, individually and with the SSSM (sports science and sports medicine) teams, over the past few months to return from their respective injuries.”

He also added that additional players remain on standby list if there is any changes required ahead of the series.

“While this is a 13-player squad, we have players prepared and available should any adjustments be required in the lead up to these matches.

He also pointed out Australia’s international schedule over the next year, saying it will likely create more opportunities for the players across all three formats.

“As previously stated, the volume of cricket and schedule across the next 12 months are likely to present further opportunities across all formats for many players.”

Currently Australia are in the top of the WTC 2025-27 points table while Bangladesh are in the fourth position.

The test series is set to be played across Darwin and Mackay starting on August 13.
