The 36-year-old scored a brisk 41 not out from just 13 balls in the third and final against India at Lord’s. That knock helped the home team post a massive 387 on the board for the loss of three wickets from their 50 overs.

Parthiv Patel urged the Indian bowlers to take the thrashing they received on Sunday as a lesson. The 41-year-old said, “It was always going to be a difficult target to chase as 388 was a huge total. Indian openers and Virat Kohli batted well and paced their innings.”

Patel also praised his former Mumbai Indians teammate Buttler for changing the course of the game. “Needed someone like Jos Buttler to give that kind of finish that England got. Until the 47th over, India were actually ahead of England in the run chase. Those last three overs changed the game completely.”

While addressing India’s bowling, the former Chennai Super Kings star said, “That’s the lesson young Indian bowlers will take away from this game. You have to finish well. Even if you’re getting hit for a couple of sixes, you need to know how to close out the over.”

Jos Buttler’s manic finish helped England post huge total

Walking into bat in the 47th over, the batter got off the mark with a single. In the next over, bowled by Gurnoor Brar, the 36-year-old hit the pacer for two boundaries and a six. 23 runs were scored in the over with England inching close to the 350-run mark.

The 49th over bowled by Prasidh Krishna saw the Lancashire lad hit two sixes and a four as Joe Root closed out the over with a boundary. Buttler also hit a boundary off Prince Yadav in the final over and took two runs off the last ball to move to 41 not out.

If we look at the scores after 47 overs, England were 325 for the loss of three wickets. India, on the other hand,were 328/6. The hosts scored 53 runs from 18 balls to post a massive total. The Men in Blue kept losing wickets and didn’t have a batter to provide the muscle that was needed to win the game.
