Former India skipper Virat Kohli continued his amazing batting in the recently concluded series against England. The 37-year-old scored two fifties in the three-match series. Kohli notched up 74 on Sunday, which was his highest score at Lord’s before Sam Curran dismissed him.

Irfan Pathan praised the veteran batter after the IND v ENG clash on Sunday. The 41-year-old also said that playing a defining knock at Lord’s doesn’t impact the veteran batter’s greatness and stature. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at the venue.

Speaking to JioStar after the game, Pathan said, “I have always wondered why scoring runs at Lord’s is considered so important.

Virat has scored all over the world. It could be a big thing, but if he hadn’t played this knock, would his importance in cricket have diminished? Certainly not.

“Whether he scores runs at Lord’s or not shouldn’t be given that much importance, especially from an Indian fan’s perspective. Virat Kohli was a master, and he will remain a master.”

Irfan praises Kohli’s game awareness

Having lost the wicket of Shubman Gill at 147, the visiting side needed top performances from other batters.

The Indian star came out and looked busy from the start and gave ample support to Rohit, who had started to score runs at a brisk pace. Virat ran well between the wickets and put the bad balls away for boundaries.

Speaking on JioStar, Irfan added, “He batted well. When Virat reached 45, he knew he had to change gears because the run rate was climbing. If our death bowling had been better, and his innings had lasted longer, the story could have been different.”

RCB’s veteran batter played 60 balls in his knock and hit four boundaries and three sixes. He was dismissed when he tried to hit Curran for a big shot and didn’t get his timing right, and England skipper Harry Brook took the catch.
