Rohit Sharma scripted another record in his decorated international career, becoming the oldest Indian player to score a hundred in the fifty-over format. He achieved the feat in the third and final ODI against England on July 19, reaching 101 off 84 balls, including 11 boundaries and 4 sixes. It was his 34th ton in ODIs, and the 39-year-old is also the first Indian batter to complete a century at Lord’s.

The right-handed willow holder surpassed the record of Sachin Tendulkar. His latest three-digit score came at 39 years and 80 days in international cricket. Sachin was 38 years and 327 days old when he scored a hundred against Bangladesh in 2012.

Rohit was dismissed after amassing 138 runs off 110 deliveries, including 17 fours and 5 sixes.

He was hampered by cramps, restricting his movement and his ability to run between the wickets. He went for big shots to add important runs to the total but was bowled by Jacob Bethell after failing to connect the fourth delivery of the 39th over.

He was given a standing ovation from the Indian players and fans, including his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. Virat Kohli, who was in the middle at the time of Rohit’s masterclass, also congratulated the batter and applauded his latest innings.

There were reports that the Lord’s ODI was his last match for India, following the selectors’ refusal to consider him after the England series.

A meeting took place between the members of the selection committee and Rohit in the presence of head coach Gautam Gambhir, during which the opener was informed about the plans.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) denied all the claims, saying Rohit was still part of the ODI set-up and the batter won’t retire after the third contest against England at the home of cricket.
