ENG vs IND: Why did Shubman Gill retire hurt while batting in the first ODI against England?

Delhi: In the first ODI being played between India and England at Edgbaston, Team India suffered a big blow when captain Shubman Gill, despite batting brilliantly, was forced to leave the field due to injury. Gill played an excellent inning of 80 runs in 75 balls, but in the 26th over of the innings he felt trouble in the back part of his right leg. The pain increased so much that he lay down on the pitch and eventually retired hurt and walked off the field.

Shubman Gill looked in great form

Shubman Gill gave a great start to the Indian team which came to chase England’s target of 259 runs. He hit 11 fours and 1 six in his innings. Gill was batting with full confidence and had put the team in a strong position.

However, after taking a run during the 26th over, he felt pain in his right leg. The physio came to the field, but Gill could not continue batting and retired hurt and returned to the dressing room. At present, official information has not been revealed on how serious his injury is.

Akshar Patel created a stir in bowling

Earlier, the Indian bowlers performed brilliantly and bowled out England for 258 runs in 47.5 overs. England had started well, but the Indian bowlers changed the course of the match by taking consecutive wickets in the middle overs.

Akshar Patel was India’s most successful bowler. He did not let England’s inferior batting survive by taking 4 wickets. Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar took 2 wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah completed 150 wickets in his ODI career by taking one wicket.

Root and Dawson took over England’s innings

At one time England’s score was 107/6 and the team appeared to be in trouble. After this, Joe Root and Liam Dawson took over the team by making a partnership of 121 runs for the seventh wicket.

Root scored 76 runs, while Dawson played a useful inning of 68 runs. Thanks to these two, England was successful in reaching beyond 250 runs.

Indian team is chasing 258 runs

India has got a target of 259 runs to win the match. However, Shubman Gill’s injury has definitely increased the concern of the Indian team. Now everyone’s eyes will be on whether Gill is able to return to the field to bat again or not and how serious is his injury.
