Just a couple of weeks ago, the cricket world was buzzing with excitement as 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made history, becoming the youngest-ever men's debutant for Team India. At just 15 years and 99 days old, he stepped onto the international stage with dreams bigger than his age. But cricket, as they say, is a great teacher, and it rarely hands out easy lessons. Vaibhav's fairytale start soon hit a speed bump. In the recently concluded T20I series against England, which India lost 4-0, the young opener managed only 42 runs across three matches, with a best score of just 15.

His struggles at the crease eventually cost him his spot, as he was dropped for the fifth and final T20I. For a teenager who had just broken the IPL record for most sixes in a season, smashing 72 maximums for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, the sudden dip was a harsh reality check. But just when things seemed to be going downhill, a ray of hope appeared from an unexpected corner. None other than Yuvraj Singh, India's World Cup-winning hero and the only Indian to hit six sixes in an over in T20Is, has come forward with a generous offer. In a recent conversation with JioStar, Yuvraj openly expressed his desire to mentor Vaibhav, much like he once did with Abhishek Sharma.

Yuvraj, known for his witty yet inspiring analogies, called himself the original "Terminator." He then went on to describe Abhishek Sharma as "Terminator 4," four times better than him, and Vaibhav as "Terminator 6," the latest and most evolved version of that attacking batting lineage. "I did my part in my time, Abhishek elevated it, and now Vaibhav is setting new standards. This is the third phase of the same journey," Yuvraj said with visible pride. Drawing a parallel to tennis, Yuvraj added, "When I watch Sinner and Alcaraz, I see how tennis is evolving. I see the same evolution in Abhishek and Vaibhav. I've spent a lot of time training Abhishek, and I would love to spend time with Vaibhav as well. He has a great career ahead of him.

He’s a serious player in the making, and I truly believe he will get there." For Vaibhav, hearing these words from his childhood idol was nothing short of surreal. In his own chat with JioStar, the young batter opened up about meeting Yuvraj for the first time. "Yuvi Paaji is my idol too. Meeting him for the first time was a special moment. I got to spend time with him, and he shared so many insights about the game, especially the mental side, how to handle pressure, and the importance of believing in yourself. It feels great to have so much to learn from someone like him. I’m sure it will help me a lot in my career going forward," Vaibhav shared emotionally. Abhishek Sharma, who has been a close witness to this growing bond, also shared his thoughts. Reflecting on a recent outing where he, Yuvraj, and Vaibhav watched the Wimbledon 2026 final together, Abhishek said, "I can feel what Vaibhav is feeling right now because Yuvi Paaji is my idol as well. I remember when I first met him, it was kind of the same feeling.

So obviously, watching my first Wimbledon final with Yuvi Paaji and Vaibhav was a special day for me." Adding more weight to this mentorship buzz, reports suggest that Yuvraj Singh is likely to take over as the new batting coach of Delhi Capitals from IPL 2027. If that happens, Vaibhav, who already has a strong connection with Rajasthan Royals, could still benefit greatly from Yuvraj’s personal guidance outside the IPL framework. For now, this offer of mentorship feels like a timely lifeline for Vaibhav. After a dream debut followed by a sobering reality check, having a legend like Yuvraj Singh in his corner could be exactly what the teenager needs to rediscover his confidence, refine his game, and come back stronger. After all, in a career that has just begun, the right guidance at the right time can make all the difference.
