Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has expressed his desire to mentor teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently became the youngest player to represent India. Having played a significant role in shaping Abhishek Sharma’s career, Yuvraj believes the 15-year-old possesses immense potential and could become one of India’s brightest stars with the right guidance.
Sooryavanshi has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket. However, his maiden international series against England proved challenging, as he managed scores of 14, 13 and 15 before being left out of the playing XI.
Despite the disappointing returns, the youngster continues to be regarded as a long-term prospect for Indian cricket. His replacement, Sanju Samson, also struggled to make an impact as India slumped to a 0-4 deficit in the series, further highlighting the team's batting concerns.Yuvraj recently attended the 2026 Wimbledon men's singles final alongside Abhishek and Sooryavanshi. Sharing a picture from the event, the former all-rounder affectionately referred to the trio as different generations of Terminators. Reflecting on the emergence of fearless young Indian batters, Yuvraj said he sees tremendous promise in both Abhishek and Sooryavanshi and expressed his eagerness to help nurture the teenager's talent in the years ahead.
Yuvi Paaji has always been one of my idols: Sooryavanshi"I always call myself a Terminator. Abhishek Sharma is Terminator 4 because he is four times better than me. Then comes Terminator 6, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has taken it to another level. I contributed in my era, Abhishek raised the standard, and now Vaibhav is carrying the legacy forward," Yuvraj said as quoted by Odishatv.
"I have spent a lot of time working with Abhishek, and I would love to spend time with Vaibhav as well.
He has a bright future ahead. He is developing into a serious cricketer, and I believe he has everything required to reach the highest level," he added.
For Sooryavanshi, meeting one of his childhood idols was an unforgettable experience. The teenage batter revealed that Yuvraj shared valuable insights on dealing with pressure, building mental resilience and maintaining self-belief. Sooryavanshi said the advice from the Punjab all-rounder would be invaluable and hoped it would guide him throughout his cricketing journey.
"Yuvi Paaji has always been one of my idols. Meeting him for the first time was very special. We spent time together, and he spoke about the mental side of cricket, dealing with pressure and believing in yourself. Learning from someone like him is a huge opportunity, and I'm sure it will benefit me going forward," Sooryavanshi said.
