Shubman Gill Attends Wimbledon Royal Box, Meets Roger Federer Alongside Sachin Tendulkar

Time has a way of creating magical moments on its own. It happened last week, on a summer evening in Wimbledon, England, for Shubman Gill.
The Indian skipper had left his cricket whites to witness the prestigious Wimbledon Championships from the royal box, specially invited to do so.

Before facing the business end of the three-match ODI series against England beginning on July 14, Gill decided to watch one of the most popular events in the sporting world. And the pictures of him sitting beside batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali went viral, capturing the hearts of millions of cricket-loving Indians.

Shubman Gill Joins an Exclusive List of Indian Cricket Greats

Shubman Gill’s visit to Wimbledon was another highlight for Gill as he joined an elite group of Indian captains to receive an invite to the Royal Box for tea. He becomes the fourth Indian captain to be invited to the Royal Box after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Gill joined a select group of Indian sportspeople in visiting the All England Club in the 2024 season, who included Shikhar Dhawan, Deepti Sharma and Tendulkar as well.

Meanwhile, one of the most talked-about moments of Gill’s visit came from the stands. The 26-year-old had a chance to meet tennis legend Roger Federer, and photos of the meeting have since gone viral on social media. Fans on social media described the meeting of two sportsmen from different generations as one of the most memorable moments of the Championships.

Shubman Gill also posted a picture from the Royal Box with Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar on his X account. In addition, the post was liked by many cricket fans.

Shubman Gill’s Wimbledon stay was the latest in a busy week for the India captain, who had also seen the British GP at Silverstone as a VIP guest. Gill had the opportunity to see the sport from a different perspective, getting up close to some of the most iconic cars in the world while also meeting members of the F1 community.

As India prepares to host England in the ODI series, Gill has certainly got his money’s worth out of his trip to England, getting front-row seats to two of the country’s most iconic sporting events in a matter of days.
