With the T20I series against England nearing its conclusion, Team India has already moved on. The focus has shifted from Southampton to Birmingham as the visitors prepare for the three-match ODI series that begins on July 14.
Virat Kohli, who was in England, joined the team in Southampton for the first time while Rohit Sharma continued his preparations after arriving a few days back. KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and left-arm pacer Gurnoor Brar were also present at Edgbaston on the day as India began their preparations for the 50-over format encounter against the hosts.
India’s ODI captain Shubman Gill is likely to return for the team after the fifth and final T20I match against England in Southampton.
Gill was seen having fun along with the visiting fans in England, attending the men’s singles semi-final match between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon. Cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara were also spotted in the Royal Box on Center Court.
Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Prasidh Krishna, and Arshdeep Singh are among the T20I squad’s players who are likely to report to Birmingham for the ODI series.
With the inclusion of Shreyas Iyer, there are also rumors that a pacer has been added to the ODI squad as a backup following Harshit Rana’s recent injury.
As the T20I encounter comes to an end, support staff will also split between the two squads.
India’s support staff will be divided between the two teams for the next few days as the ODI squad arrives in Birmingham.
Meanwhile, one set of support staff will stay with the T20I team, while the other has started working with the ODI squad in Birmingham.
The England tour might also be T. Dilip, the fielding coach’s, final assignment, as he is set to leave after the tour.
India’s ODI squad will be looking to turn things around from the T20I defeat in England, where captain Shubman Gill will lead the attack.
India will hope to move on from a T20I whitewash as they prepare to face England in the ODI series.
On the other hand, England will be looking to carry their success from the T20I format into the ODI format. Having played remarkable cricket in the T20I series, England will be eager to defend their 50-over record against India.
