Tammy Beaumont, only the second woman to score a hundred in all three formats, is retiring from international cricket. Her last game for England will be the first ever Women’s Test at Lord’s, against India, starting on Friday.

Beaumont has played 260 times for England across all three formats — scoring 612 Test runs, 4738 ODI runs, and 1975 T20I runs — and ends her career with the most ODI centuries for England (12). She was also the Player of the Tournament at the 2017 ODI World Cup that England won at home, beating India in the final.

An emotional Beaumont said it had been a long time coming. “When I was left out of the 20-over World Cup was a bit of a blow, and I thought it was the right time for me to move on,” she said. “Telling the girls about my decision was the hardest bit.”

She regrets she got to play very few Test matches. The historic Lord’s Test would only be her 12th, though she had made her international debut in 2009. “Test cricket for women should not be tokenism,” she said.

She is glad to see women’s cricket evolve so much in her time. “I made my debut in front of five people besides the ground men and now we will be playing a Test match potentially in front of 20,000,” she said. “The biggest change I have seen is the increase in the talent pool.”
