European Union lawmakers demand an investigation into the FIFA chief over contacts with Trump.

Investigation will be done regarding the decision of allowing the player to play despite getting a red card.

Brussels: Dozens of European lawmakers are gathering support for an investigation into FIFA Chief Gianni Infantino.

He is being investigated for his involvement in the decision to allow US striker Folarin Balogun to play despite receiving a red card. Balogun was shown a red card during the US’s victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on July 1, which normally would have made him ineligible for the team’s next match.

However, President Donald Trump spoke to Infantino on the matter, after which the 25-year-old striker’s suspension was lifted for the next match against Belgium. Holidays and Seasonal Events European Parliament members Barry Andrews, Lara Walters and Niels Fugelsang said in a joint statement that FIFA’s “decision to change the suspension rules for red cards midway through the tournament is shameful and a miscarriage of justice.” “Once again, we see Infantino and FIFA bowing to the demands of the Trump Administration,” the statement said.
