Dasun Shanaka bowled one of the best final overs in the history of T20 cricket as the Sri Lankan all-rounder claimed four wickets in four consecutive deliveries to help Seattle Orcas register a thrilling nine-run victory over Texas Super Kings in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 on Monday.

The stunning display by the T20I World Cup-winning captain saw him join an elite group of bowlers, such as his own teammate Lasith Malinga, who has managed to take four wickets in four balls in the shortest format of the game.

Dasun Shanaka’s unforgettable final over seals a dramatic victory

Batting first in Pomona, Seattle Orcas were restricted to 121/9 by the impressive bowling of Amshi de Silva, who finished with 3 wickets for 15 runs, while Adam Milne gave away only 8 runs and took two scalps.

Chasing the modest target, Texas failed to gain the required momentum and were all out in the final over as Amilka Jayawardene ended up chasing the last 15 runs.

The situation did not look daunting as initially, Shubham Ranjane hit a six and a single to make it 10 runs needed from the last four balls.

However, soon the luck started changing for the home team as Dasun Shanaka bamboozled the two openers.

The first two wickets fell in the same over as the new ball was thrown by Donovan Ferreira, but the spinner, Dasun Shanaka, made everyone look foolish as he bowled a slower ball that beat the inside edge of Donovan Ferreira to end up with the stumps.

In the very next delivery, he sent back Calvin Savage for the second wicket. Milne was the next to depart as he failed to connect with the third delivery to give away his hat-trick, which was completed by Amshi de Silva in the next over as the left-arm spinner dismissed the last required batter to seal the thrilling victory for Seattle.

Dasun Shanaka joins the elite club in T20

Only a few bowling stars have managed to achieve the feat of getting four wickets in four consecutive deliveries in a T20 match.

Jim Allenby was the first to register the incredible haul for Leicestershire against Lancashire in 2008. The most remarkable achievement was registered by Lasith Malinga, however, as he dismissed Colin Munro, Hamish Rutherford, Colin de Grandhomme and Ross Taylor in the same over while bowling against New Zealand in 2019, registering phenomenal figures of 5/6.

Other notable names include Andre Russell, Rashid Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Curtis Campher, Jason Holder and now Dasun Shanaka, who became the latest to join the exclusive club with a special performance in the MLC 2026.

Thanks to this thrilling win, Seattle Orcas moved up to the second position in the MLC table with four consecutive victories in eight games. As the surprise packet of last year, the team managed to register their best-ever campaign to date, having already clinched the runners-up spot.

In the coming matches, they will face MI New York and San Francisco Unicorns in their remaining fixtures and have the best chances to make it to the play-offs.
