A brilliant spell from Matt Short has powered a five-wicket victory for San Francisco Unicorns to the 5-wicket victory against MI New York at Pomona.
His 4/17 has set up MI New York to crumble for a low score during the clash. By this win, they climbed to the top of the MLC 2026 points table.
Being invited to bat first, Monank Patel and Quinton de Kock opened the innings for MI New York, while Xavier Bartlett opened the bowling attack.
Bartlett bagged the wicket of Quinton de Kock for duck while Brody Couch dismissed Monank Patel for 11 runs.
With Tajinder Dhillon and Shakib Al Hasan got dismissed cheaply, Nicholas Pooran and Pollard are at crease as MI New York added 44 runs in the powerplay.
With back to back dismissals, MI New York went on to score only 104 runs in their 20 over innings.
Matthew Short bagged four wickets each while Brody Couch bagged three wickets respectively. Corbin Bosch was the leading run scorer for the side with 21 runs off 22 deliveries.
Xavier Bartlett, Haris Rauf and Aaron Hardie completed their spell with one wicket each.
Chasing the 105 run target, Lhuan dre Pretorius and Finn Allen opened the innings while Faisal Khan Ahmadzai opened the bowling attack.
Faisal Khan Ahmadzai bagged the wicket of Lhuan-dre Pretorius for golden duck. After Finn Allen’s dismissal, Matthew Short and Sanjay Krishnamurthi did forged a small partnership before Tristan Luus bagged the wicket for Short for 21 runs.
However, a solid stand from Sanjay Krishnamurthi has set up the side to complete the chase in the 17th over.
He remained unbeaten with 48* runs which included four fours and 2 sixes.
Matthew Short was named player of the Match. Speaking at the presentation, Short said, “I mean, looking at the stats and all the data that’s gone into it, I think a lot of the damage has been done by the quicks, and that’s probably leading into this game, I think that’s the way we’re leading, I think there were just a few match-ups there for me, and lucky being the captain, you can throw yourself the ball, and it worked out today.”
