India lost to England in the second T20I game that was played in Manchester on Saturday. Shreyas Iyer was at a loss for words at the end of the game after Jacob Bethell’s knock of 76 not out helped his team win the game by four wickets with an over to spare.
Ravi Bishnoi’s 17th over went for 29 runs, which changed the course of the game. Speaking to Naseer Husain at the end of the game, theIndian skipper said, “We all know where it went away. Do not want to blame one player. At one point we were doing well, before momentum shifted towards England and then the chase became easy.”
The 31-year-old also lauded Bethell for his knock and said: “Amazing knock by Jacob, theway he played was sensational, he has got a cool demeanour to him, calculated his innings well and waited for the loose ball, then took on the bowlers.” The left-handed batter was named player of the match for his knock under pressure.
In the four matches that the Punjab Kings star has led so far, he has seen the defending T20 World Cup winners three times. There will be introspection in the Indian camp ahead of the next game on Tuesday, which takes place in Nottingham.
Rajasthan Royals’ bowler Bishnoi could be one of the casualties of the game. Team management could bring in Prince Yadav to strengthen the pace department or Washington Sundar to add more steel to their side.
The 25-year-old leg-spinner twice cut the return crease while bowling in the 17th over. Resulting free-hits were hit for sixes as the game swung towards the home team. England batting hero Bethell also added 14 runs off the final four legal deliveries, which included a six and a boundary.
Those 29 runs conceded were the third most costly by an Indian bowler in the T20I format. Shivam Dubey leads the list when he gave away 34 runs against New Zealand in 2020, followed by Stuart Binny’s 32-run over against West Indies in 2016.
