Double attack of 7.5 magnitude in Venezuela, so far 1,430 deaths and 68 thousand missing

Two back-to-back devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that hit Venezuela on Wednesday have caused massive devastation. So far, at least 1,430 people have been confirmed dead in this natural disaster, while according to government figures, the surprising thing is that more than 68,900 people are still missing under the debris or in remote areas. Emergency forces, local police and international relief teams are working day and night in the worst-hit residential areas to clear debris and rescue survivors.

Officials have expressed serious apprehension that as the huge mountains of debris are cleared and contact with remote rural areas is established, the death toll may take a more frightening form. The Venezuelan government has issued a red alert across affected parts of the country and appealed to the global community for immediate international humanitarian aid and rescue equipment.
