Delhi: West Indies defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs in the first match of the two-match Test series on Sunday. The hero of West Indies’ victory was left-handed batsman Aamir Jangu. Junge scored a brilliant double century in the match. Jangu was chosen player of the match for his historic innings.

Captain Dhananjay de Silva scored a century for Sri Lanka in the first innings.

In this Test which started on Thursday, June 25, West Indies won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Sri Lanka had scored 308 runs while playing first. For Sri Lanka, their captain Dhananjay de Silva had scored a brilliant century. Apart from him, Dinesh Chandimal scored an excellent half-century. Chandimal scored 54 runs. Whereas, Sonal Dinusha had contributed 43 runs. Justin Greaves took three wickets for West Indies. Whereas Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph got two successes each.

Jungoo-Chase partnership put Sri Lanka in trouble

West Indies had scored 626 runs after losing 9 wickets in their first innings.

For West Indies, Aamir Jangu and captain Roston Chase made a historic partnership. Both of them made a partnership of 401 runs for the sixth wicket. Due to which West Indies took a strong hold on the match. During this, Jangu scored a double century. He played an innings of 233 runs with the help of 19 fours and three sixes. Captain Chase also scored a brilliant century. He missed scoring a double century by just six runs. Chase was out after scoring 194 runs with the help of 13 fours and two sixes. Milan Priyanath Rathnayake opened his paw for Sri Lanka. He took five wickets for 124 runs.

Sri Lanka was limited to just 101 runs in its second innings.

West Indies, with its tremendous batting, had taken a lead of 318 runs in the first innings. Sri Lanka had to score 319 runs to avoid innings defeat. But, Sri Lanka was limited to only 101 runs in its second innings. Except Dinesh Chandimal and Sonal Dinusha, none of the Sri Lankan batsmen could even touch double figures. Chandimal scored 43 runs and Dinusha scored 12 runs. For West Indies, experienced fast bowler Kemar Roach took the maximum of four wickets.

Whereas, Jaden Seales got three successes. While Shamar Joseph took two wickets and Alzarri Joseph took one wicket. Due to which West Indies won the match by an innings and 217 runs. With this, West Indies has taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The second Test between the two teams will be played from Friday, July 3 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Whereas, West Indies would like to clean up Sri Lanka in the series by getting another win. At the same time, Sri Lanka would like to level the series by winning this match.
