Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur didn't hold back after India's T20 World Cup campaign came to an abrupt end at Lord's on Sunday, as Australia secured a six-wicket victory to knock the Women in Blue out of the semifinal race.
Reflecting on the defeat, Harmanpreet admitted the team fell short of their own benchmarks. "Today we were in the game for quite some time, but still, I think we didn't play to our standards. As a group, we need to rethink a lot of things," she said in the post-match presentation.
Despite her own fluent half-century, the captain was candid about India's struggles against top-tier opposition throughout the tournament.
"We got a decent total on the board. At one stage, I thought we were a little short, but in the last over I did my job. However, we didn't play well. Australia bowled well. Throughout the tournament, we didn't perform against good teams. That's an area we need to improve."
Australian captain Sophie Molineux, meanwhile, praised the match-winning partnership between Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner, who added 100 runs for the fourth wicket to steer the chase. "Those two batted beautifully, using their smarts, skills, and targeting the short boundary.
Great to see them put together a big partnership," Molineux said.Great to see them put together a big partnership," Molineux said.
