India defeated Bangladesh by 5 wickets in their crucial match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. With their third win in four matches, the Women in Blue will have to beat Australia in their last game to make it to the semi-finals of the global tournament. Chasing 137, India lost vice-captain Smriti Mandhana on a score of 31. She managed just 8 runs off 6 balls.
However, Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia steadied the ship, adding 45 runs for the second wicket. Shafali played another aggressive knock, amassing 53 runs off 34 deliveries. She struck 8 boundaries and 1 six, with her runs coming at a strike rate of 155.88.Yastika managed 23 runs off 17 balls, with the help of 3 boundaries. Wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh was promoted in the batting order, and she contributed 10 runs off 12 balls, laced with 2 fours. However, the fall of two quick wickets in the form of Yastika and Richa put India under pressure.
Jemimah Rodrigues (26 off 15) hit 3 boundaries and 1 six to take the team close to Bangladesh’s total before departing.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (13 off 14) and all-rounder Deepti Sharma ( 5 off 2) remained not out as India reached the target in 16.5 overs.
Ritu Moni claimed two wickets for Bangladesh. Marufa Akter, Nahida Akter, and Rabeya Khan picked up one wicket each.
Earlier, Bangladesh women were restricted to 136 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs, with none of the batters reaching the fifty-run mark.
Although several batters got starts, Indian bowlers didn’t allow them to carry on.
Opener Dilara Akter returned to the pavilion after posting just 4 runs. Juairiya Ferdous faced 31 balls but managed just 33 runs with the help of 5 boundaries.Sobhana Mostary’s 26-ball 22 impacted the scoring rate, and she was found wanting. Captain Nigar Sultana hit 4 boundaries and was the top run-getter for her side. Her 32 runs came in 27 deliveries.
Sharmin Akhter (10 off 12) retired after she found it hard to connect with the ball.
Shorna Akter (13 off 10) and Ritu Moni (8 off 4) tried to accelerate the scoring rate, but they didn’t stay for a long time.
For India, Radha Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 28 runs. Shree Charani, the inform bowler, claimed two scalps, while Nandani Sharma and Renuka Singh dismissed one batter each.
