New Zealand Women beat Scotland Women by six wickets at the County Ground in Bristol on Tuesday, June 23, to keep their hopes of reaching the semi-final alive.

After Melie Kerr won the toss and opted to bowl first, Scotland got off to an excellent start, as their openers added 51 runs in seven overs. At the end of the 14th over, the Scottish side was looking set for a mighty acceleration at the back end of the innings, having scored 96 runs at the loss of two wickets. However, two wickets were taken by Sophie Devine in the 15th over, and Scotland never really recovered.

In the last six overs, Scotland could only aggregate 35 runs for the loss of five wickets. They set New Zealand a paltry target of 132. Scotland opener Darcey Carter carried her bat, finishing unbeaten on 72 off 52 balls.

They needed a partnership, and it came from Izzy Sharp and Brooke Halliday. Sharp and Halliday added 101 runs off 75 balls to take New Zealand to the brink. Scotland were not as abysmal as New Zealand on the field, but they still missed half chances.

After Sharp was dismissed in the 18th over for a 43-ball 62, Halliday and Maddy Green took their team home with six wickets and 10 balls to spare. Halliday remained unbeaten on 41 off 38 balls.

Izzy Sharp walked out to bat at No. 3. New Zealand lost three out of their top four batters inside the first six overs of the run-chase.

They needed the 21-year-old to dig deep and form a partnership with the experienced Halliday. She managed to do so and put her team in a position of strength before Halliday and Green took them home.

New Zealand captain Melie Kerr bowled brilliantly on Tuesday. The leg-spinner took three wickets and conceded just 17 runs in his four-over spell. Kerr also bowled a maiden during her bowling effort. She proved why she is ranked at the top of the list for all-rounders in Women's T20I cricket.

Who won the Player of the Match award?

While Darcey Carter did really well with the bat, scoring more runs than Sharp, it was the latter who got the Player of the Match. Sharp had a better strike rate, and she hit eight fours and one six during her knock. She was eventually dismissed for 62 off 43 balls by Rachel Slater.
